Testing mylar as new lining material

Dead set on getting a new prototype finished in a month or two. Silicone rubber seems not very likely to work, it sags to much, and not sure if I’m able to get the origami-look with that material. I need something a bit more rigid. Earlier attempts failed because of nice looking but crappy materials.

Mylar has a fantastic look, but the live hinge properties for mylar are not the best. After a sertain ammount of bending a fold back and forth, it will rip. And this one also seems a bit too thick. Haven’t measured, but it’s supposedly 0.3 mm.

Got a tip that polypropylene would be a good choice of material. Thanks goes to Peter Crisp! I’ve checked with Razorlab, and if I support them with the polypropylene sheets of my choice, they’re able to both laser cut an laser engrave those. That means some extra logistics work, but it’s manageable. I have to get a supplyer in the UK, and get them to send it to Razorlab.

Next step is to cut the outer shell and start attaching parts with solvent.
